The Morgenland Festival Osnabrück 2007 presented the first guest appearance by a western Symphony Orchestra in Tehran, Iran, since 1979.

The concert by the Tehran Symphony Orchestra in Osnabrück the previous year had led to many contacts between the musicians from Tehran and Osnabrück. It was their initiative which led to the return visit.

On the programme were works by Brahms (4th Symphony), Beethoven (Leonora Overture) and Elgar (Cello Concerto, soloist Julian Steckel). The conductor was Hermann Bäumer. Musicians from the Tehran Symphony Orchestra played as guests together with their colleagues from the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra.

Due to the censorship in Iran, the work “Moulana” by the Iranian composer Nader Mashayekhi could not be performed. The world premiere of this work took place during the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück 2008.
