BAL.KAN, the ambitious project of the eminent Catalan Maestro Jordi Savall, is a major musical and historical feat. A humanitarian as much as a musician, Savall’s renown is built on years of meticulous research and impeccable musicianship as well as innovative publishing and recording enterprises in which he constantly bridges the gap between cultures and music styles and delves deep into little known historical cultural figures and events, neglected by most researchers and little known to general public. His interest in the Balkans is not new, but after the war in the 90s, it became more intensely dedicated and profound. Together with his Ensemble Hespèrion XXI he brings together singers and instrumentalists from all over the Balkan region and with the program he chooses, plunges into this diverse but unique, fascinating musical universe.
As the concert had to be cancelled due to corona pandemia we are looking forward to meeting four musicians of Jordi Savall’s ensemble.
Amira Medunjanin and Nedyalko Nedyalkov will start with their online concerts and will present themselves, their instruments and their music in four short films, that will be shot in Sarajevo and and Thrace, where Orpheus is said to have lived ...
