"Vivifying globally inspired music effortlessly blending Classical, World, and Jazz." – Saint-Gaudens Memorial Concert Series, New Hampshire, USA
Celebrated as "a positive vision of our cultural future" by the Toronto Star, Sri Lankan-born Canadian Dinuk Wijeratne has established himself as one of Canada's most performed contemporary Classical composers. A JUNO and multi-award-winner equally at home with symphony orchestras, tabla players, and DJs, Wijeratne has appeared at international venues as poles apart as the Berlin Philharmonie and the North Sea Jazz Festival. Recent highlights include performances with and by the San Francisco Symphony and the London Philharmonic.
Wijeratne's boundary-defying compositions transcend conventional categorization, crossing cultures and musical borders with remarkable fluidity. His extensive body of work encompasses piano-led and improvisation-based music, and as a pianist, he leads his own trio in heartfelt original pieces inspired by the mystical poetry of Kahlil Gibran, the fantastical short stories of Italo Calvino, and universal questions of belonging and home.
Joining Wijeratne are two exceptional musicians: versatile percussionist Nick Halley, known for his collaborations with American icon James Taylor, and two-time ECMA award-winning jazz bassist Tom Easley, one of Eastern Canada's finest musicians.
