Golnar & Mahan Trio

The city of Vienna acts as a magnet for many artists. In 2008, Iranian-Canadian singer Golnar Shahyar moved there, where she worked with various artists and ensembles. In 2011 she met the Iranian-Australian guitarist and composer Mahan Mirarab, who has made an international name for himself in the jazz world as an interpreter of Persian music. Since then Golnar and Mahan have been artistically inseparable, realizing their visions in different bands and projects. Someone who can follow their visions very well is the inventive Australian percussionist Amir Wahbar. Together they create a completely new and therefore difficult to describe way of musical storytelling. Virtuoso and expressive, Golnar's voice moves between Asian microtonality and Mahan's western jazz scales. Elegantly and with great skill, they combine different layers of sound and rhythm into and over one another, wandering through their compositions in an improvisational way and surprising audiences with a self-confident new language. For the first time, they are now meeting two other guests at the Morgenland Festival: the trumpeter Yazz Ahmed and the flautist Naïssam Jalal.
