Young Morgenland: Damascus – Cham Saloum Quartet

As part of the "Young Morgenland" series, we had planned a concert with young musicians from Damascus. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to obtain visas for the guests. The struggle for visas has always accompanied us in 20 years of the Morgenland Festival Osnabrück and is a sad testimony to our age.

We are delighted that we were able to secure the Cham Saloum Quartet at short notice. The ensemble around the young Syrian oud player Cham Saloum will play their program 'Damascus - Night in Memory'.
The four musicians see themselves as travelers between different musical traditions. They have found each other on their travels and now unite their musical worlds in melodies, sounds and polyrhythms. Their music carries a deep, almost mystical dimension, which they convey in a variety of ways. Oud player Cham Saloum loves to unite the "beauty of the traditional, the craziness of new music and the heavens of jazz" in her music.

Line Up:
Cham Saloum – oud
Youssef Laktina – percussion
Jonathan Sell – bass
Simon Bernstein – vibraphon, electronics

A combined ticket is available for this event.
