Young Morgenland: Yerevan
The Young Morgenland series begins with an ensemble from the Armenian capital Yerevan. It is put together and supervised by Levon Eskenian, the founder and director of the internationally-acclaimed Gurdjieff Ensemble. The programme includes traditional Armenian music as well as compositions by Komitas Vardapet. A priest, composer and musicologist, Komitas (d. 1935) is regarded as the founder of modern classical Armenian music and a keeper of Armenian musical heritage.
