Tunisian and Denmark-based producer Sofyann Ben Youssef creates soundscapes that defy any clear categorization. In 2018, he caused an international sensation with his project AMMAR 808’s debut Maghreb United – A powerful fusion of heavy rhythms, deep bass, and traditional North African folk instruments and vocals from Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. The project’s name comes from his virtuosic use of the legendary synthesizer Roland TR-808, an analogue drum machine from 1980. 

Youssef’s approach results in his hypnotic, futuristic sound that takes regional musical traditions and transforms them into modern, club-ready tracks. Archaic but visionary, with raw and precise producing – like a pan-Maghrebian science fiction trip, where the past and the future collide on the dance floor.
