Avalanche Kaito

Since their debut in the summer of 2021, the trio Avalanche Kaito has captivated the international music scene. Their uncompromising, electrifying sound has carried them throughout Europe and to Canada in no time at all. It is a project that defies any conventional categorization, instead determining an entirely new and radical musical language.

The trio aptly describe their style as “grrriot_punk_noise”. At their center is Burkinabe multi-instrumentalist Kaito Winse, a guardian of the West African griot tradition. With his archaic, powerful voice and a wide variety of instruments including percussion, Winse brings this centuries-old spiritual heritage into dialogue with the raw energy of the present. He is joined by drummer Benjamin Chaval, who blends acoustic and electronic rhythms to form hypnotic sound structures, and guitarist Nico Gitto, whose playing oscillates between noise punk and anarchic improvisation. Together, the sound they create is trance-like, visceral and highly experimental.

Avalanche Kaito are an exceptional artistic phenomenon that did not go unnoticed for long: Following an invitation to the Grammy Awards for an exclusive live video (2022), the trio recorded an internationally celebrated session for the cult radio station KEXP (2023). Music industry media such as the magazine The Wire have honored the band as one of the most visionary formations of the present.
