Farhot

Concert
Botschaft , 18:45
For producer Farhot, the cut-and-paste sampling method used in hip-hop is an apt metaphor for the composition of his migrant identity. In the 1980s, he left his home country Afghanistan and sought asylum in Germany, where he developed his signatory style as a producer. He sees sampling as an opportunity to celebrate differences, where different sounds of the diaspora can meet. His talent has been recognized by hip-hop greats such as Nneka, Talib Kweli, and Isiah Rashad, all of whom he has also collaborated with as a producer. His own releases on the label Kabul Fire Records, including Kabul Fire Vol. 1 & 2 received international acclaim, the latter even being named “Album of the Month” by The Guardian.
With RAQS (105-118 BPM), Farhot is now bringing his ethos to the dance floor. The title – the Dari word for “dance” – symbolizes cultural connectedness, movement, and exchange. In his DJ set, he combines influences from North Africa, West Asia, and East Africa with his characteristic producing. Hypnotic bass drums meet funky synthesizers and fragmented vocal samples, with laid-back complexity somewhere between hip-hop, electronic music, and global pop.
