Meet the Master
The legendary Syrian-French double-bass player Francois Rabbath’s contribution to the world of double-bass playing can be compared to that of Paganini in the violin world as he revolutionized the playing techniques of the instrument and brought it to the spotlight as a solo instrument.
This intimate evening of music and conversation between Rabbath and guest curator Kinan Azmeh will celebrate the 94-year-old performer, composer, and improviser as he shares with us some of his compositions and improvisations accompanied by his son Sylvain Rabbath on the piano. Rabbath will bring us closer to his incredibly rich musical life from the Paris Opera Orchestra, to collaborating with the likes of Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Gilbert Bécaud, Michel Legrand, and others, all the way to his collaboration with American composer-double bassist Frank Proto and to the solo international career he led.
